Cab driver who ran over 3-yr-old held

The Chandigarh Police on Monday arrested the cab driver who hit an infant on the Sector 29-30 traffic lights on March 3,picked up an injured Sonu on the pretext of taking him to hospital and later dumped him in Sector 18.

The Chandigarh Police on Monday arrested the cab driver who hit an infant on the Sector 29-30 traffic lights on March 3,picked up an injured Sonu (3) on the pretext of taking him to hospital and later dumped him in Sector 18. Hirdyanand has been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

The Chandigarh Police had constituted a special investigation team,comprising three sub-inspectors Ravinder Singh,Ajinder Singh and Rajdeep Singh to nab the driver. During investigation,the police team,along with the special staff of Police Control Room,identified the driver and arrested him on Monday from Sector 17 and impounded the Esteem Car cab of Indus Taxi.

During preliminary interrogation,Hirdyanand,a resident of Uttar Pradesh,confessed that after hitting Sonu he took him away,pretending that he was taking him to hospital,but threw the boy out of his cab outside the Sector-18 church. Police investigations revealed that the child was alive at that time.
