“After sending two mails to the administrator on September 23 and 27, no action was taken. So, I have again sent an SOS mail to the administrator to give appointment to the teachers or solve the problem. Or else we are left with no option but to march to Raj Bhawan,” Arvind Rana, president, SSATWA

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan teachers on Monday sent a reminder to UT Administrator V P Singh Badnore to either give appointment to 819 teachers and 245 employees or transfer their salary.

The city unit of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers Welfare Association (SSATWA) has threatened that if its demand is not fulfilled then all 819 Junior Basic Training (JBT) and Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT) would march towards Raj Bhawan to meet the UT administrator. The Ministry of Human Resource and Development and Union Department of School Education and Literacy have failed to transfer the due budget sanctioned under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan to Chandigarh.

Earlier this year, SSATWA president Arvind Rana had sent a legal reminder to the Ministry of Human Resource and Development and Union Ministry of Finance for not transferring the approved budget to Chandigarh.

The issue was also taken up by the UT Administrator and MP Kirron Kher after which HRD Minister Prakash Javedkar, in a letter dated June 23, committed to Badnore to transfer the shortfall budget of 2016-17 to Chandigarh during early July. However, even after the September budget, around to  Rs 20 crore was not transferred by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development, following which two months’ salary of 819 teachers and 245 employees is still pending.

The association had earlier met the director school education, education secretary and MP Kher apart from writing to the special secretary and additional secretary, Ministry of Human Resource and Development and Union Department of School Education and Literacy for transferring the budget but in vain.

SSATWA president Arvind Rana said: “After sending two mails to the administrator on September 23 and 27, no action was taken. So, I have again sent an SOS mail to the administrator to give appointment to the teachers or solve the problem. Or else we are left with no option but to march to Raj Bhawan. Today (Monday), I received a call from the office of ADC of UT Administrator to enquire about the issue. I informed about them that the MHRD officials are not abiding by the HRD Minister’s written promise to the UT Administrator by not sending the committed and approved budget. The ADC assured us to go through the issue with the UT secretary education and with officials concerned so that the salary could be given to SSA teachers and employees. The teachers will be waiting for three days for their next step.”
