On Friday, the High Court took suo motu cognisance of a letter written by the secretary of the High Court Bar Association (HCBA), seeking the arrest of a lawyer accused of instigating the attack.

The letter alleged that Advocate Ravneet Kaur instigated Advocate Simranjit Singh Blassi to assault the Bar members on September 17. It was also alleged that Kaur posted defamatory content against the secretary on social media, prompting the court to initiate action on its own motion. Hence, the court had sought response from the Chandigarh Administration and DGP.

Also, Blassi has lodged a complaint, alleging that a mob of 100 unnamed lawyers attacked him. A daily diary report has been registered in the matter but the High Court has stayed coercive action against any Bar member.
