Tribal leader joins Odisha Congress

The Congress got a shot in the arm in tribal-dominated Koraput region ahead of the 2024 polls with former MP and minister Jayaram Pangi joined the party on Saturday in Bhubaneswar.

Pangi, 68, an old-timer, who was elected to the Odisha assembly for the first time in 1977, had tried his luck in several political parties earlier.

The tribal leader said his joining in Congress is also to fulfil the wish of his late father. “The Congress is the most preferred party of the tribal people in Odisha and will succeed in its plan to change the government in Odisha,” he said.

Odisha Congress president Sarat Pattanayak said Pangi’s joining will further strengthen Congress party in Koraput region. In 2019, Koraput was the only parliamentary seat won by Congress because of its organisational strength.
