Bengaluru’s High Grounds police have booked YouTuber Ajeet Bharti for allegedly claiming that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was planning to replace the Ram temple in Ayodhya with the Babri Masjid.
The FIR was registered on a complaint lodged on Saturday by B K Bopanna, legal cell secretary of the ruling Congress in Karnataka.
The YouTuber was booked under sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) and 505 (2) (statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes) of the Indian Penal Code.
Bopanna alleged that in a video posted on the X website on Thursday, Ajeet Bharti claimed that Rahul Gandhi was planning to build Babri Masjid in the place of the newly built Ram temple in Ayodhya.
Ajeet Bharati’s “hate speech” can harm public peace and harmony, Bopanna alleged in the police complaint, demanding legal action against the YouTuber.
