A 26-year-old woman in northern Bengaluru died after she fell from her brother’s scooter and came under the wheels of a truck Friday.

The deceased was identified as Priyanka Kumari, a resident of Alur BDA Phase 2, who was working at a private firm. She was riding pillion with her brother Naresh Kumar, 34, a businessman.

The accident took place around 10.45 am on Huskur Main Road in Alur, near Nelamangala. The siblings were travelling to the Madavara metro station when the collision occurred. A truck heading towards the APMC market in Dasanapura suddenly veered right to avoid a tree branch and brushed against the handle of the bike coming from the opposite direction.

Due to the impact, Priyanka fell to the right, and her brother fell to the left. She came under the wheels of the truck, which was heading in the opposite direction.

“She was not wearing a helmet, which caused severe head injuries leading to instantaneous death,” a police officer stated. The complainant’s statement, recorded in the FIR, confirmed that the truck made contact with the two-wheeler.

Initial reports had claimed the scooter skidded on a damaged road surface, causing the riders to fall before Kumari came under the truck’s wheels. The police later said she fell after contact with the truck, not due to potholes.

However, an officer said that they will conduct a thorough investigation to determine whether road conditions played any contributory role in the accident.

Leader of Opposition R Ashoka of the BJP attacked the Congress government. In a post on X, he said, “Yet another life lost because of Congress’ criminal negligence! A young woman in Bengaluru has lost her life – not because of fate, but because of a pothole! A truck tried to avoid a pothole and ran over her. Mr. @RahulGandhi, is this your so-called Karnataka Model? Are the lives of Kannadigas so cheap under your @INCKarnataka government? Your Chief Minister @siddaramaiah and Deputy CM @DKShivakumar are busy doing one upmanship and fighting for power – but have no time to fix our roads or ensure basic safety for citizens. Every pothole in Bengaluru is a symbol of @INCIndia’s corruption, apathy, and arrogance. Every tragedy like this is a reminder that this government has blood on its hands.”
