Need detailed project report: DCM Parameshwara directs officials on Linganamakki proposal

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara directed officials from various departments Thursday to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed Linganamakki Project. According to the project, water from Netravati River will be diverted to Bengaluru, Kolar and Chikkaballapur to meet drinking water requirements of these cities. Parameshwara added that steps will be taken to closely examine the pros and cons of the proposal in the light of widespread criticism to the proposal.

Bangalore student gets placed at Google on Rs 60 lakh package

22-year-old KB Shyam, a 22-year-old student from the International Institute of Informational Technology Bangalore (IIIT-B) landed a job at Google with an annual package of Rs 60 lakh on Thursday. He had just completed his five-year iMtech dual degree from IIIT-B when he applied for a job in the multinational company. The youngster is all set to fly to Warsaw in some days to pursue his dream job.

Bangalore most pet-friendly city in India: Survey

A recent survey conducted across India has observed Bangalore as the most pet-friendly city in the country. The study, which was conducted according to responses from 1,500 pet owners from different cities, also observed that pet-friendly parks, restaurants and other public places in Bangalore led to the result. Mumbai is second on the list while Hyderabad and Delhi ranked the lowest.

BBMP's 'Janaspandana' programme in Mahadevapura on June 29

Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy and DCM G Parameshwara will interact with the general public in Bengaluru on Saturday in a 'Janaspandana' programme organised by the local civic body Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). The programme is scheduled to begin at 2 pm on June 29 in MLR Convention Centre near Mahadevapura Fire Station. Karnataka Congress to form panchayat-level committees after humiliating Lok Sabha defeat

The Karnataka state Congress leadership has decided to form panchayat-level committees, in a bid to strengthen the party’s reach in the state. Confirming the decision, Karnataka in-charge KC Venugopal said in Bangalore, “There is a unanimous decision among the top leadership of the party that panchayat-level committees should be formed in between the block and booth levels. This process will be completed within three months.”

Karnataka yet to receive NREGA funds: Kumaraswamy

Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said that the central government has not released the NREGA amount of about Rs 2,000 crore to the state. The National Disaster Response Force(NDRF) amount has also not been released yet, he said in Kalaburagi.

E-City expressway annual fare revised from July 1

Bangalore Elevated Tollway Pvt Ltd announced its annual fare revision for the elevated expressway in Electronics City. The revised fare will be implemented from July 1 All vehicles, except twowheelers, have to pay Rs 5 to Rs 10 extra fare depending on the category. For a single journey, the toll is Rs 50 for cars and Rs 70 for light commercial vehicles (LCVs). And for multiple journeys in a day, the fare is Rs 70 for cars and Rs 100 for LCVs. Two-wheelers have to pay Rs 580 for monthly pass. Similarly, the annual revision has been implemented at Attibele toll gate too. Accordingly, for a single journey, cars will have to pay Rs 30 and Rs 45 for multiple journeys. For LCVs, the fare is Rs 50 and Rs 70 respectively.

CID probe into custodial death

The Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) has ordered a CID probe into the murder of an undertrial at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prisons. Syed Fairoz, 21, a resident of DJ Halli, died on January 23 at Victoria Hospital while undergoing treatment. Fairoz, who was an undertrial, was in judicial custody when he died. Fairoz’s relatives had alleged that his body had several injury marks which was also confirmed in the postmortem report.

Pillion rider  killed when two-wheeler collided with a JCB

A 42-year-old man riding pillion on a bike was killed while the rider escaped with minor injuries when their two-wheeler collided with a JCB on the service road of Outer Ring Road at Doddanekkundi near KR Puram, east Bengaluru, on Wednesday morning. KR Puram traffic police said Ramesh, a resident of Doddanekkundi and owner of a juice shop in Bagmane Tech Park, was riding pillion on his employee Yeshwant’s bike. They were heading towards Kartik Nagar junction at 3 am when the accident happened.

BMTC Volvo buses may be handed over to other State-owned transport corporations

Air-conditioned Volvo buses that Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) operate in Bengaluru may be handed over to other State-owned transport corporations as the buses were not generating revenue. Chief minister HD Kumaraswamy made an announcement in this regard in Raichur on Wednesday. Kumaraswamy said the government had been forced to take the decision as the Bengaluru corporation was suffering losses. “It’s profitable if each bus covers 150-200 km a day, but it cannot happen in a city like Bengaluru,” he said.

Bangalore police arrest pub owner; release him on bail

Bangalore police arrested Chandan Mudigere, owner of #BEiR pub on Church Street where two persons had accidentally fallen to their death on June 21 night. He was booked under IPC section 304A (causing death due to negligence) and released on bail. Chandan had apparently given the pub on lease to one Kulkarni and had not visited the pub for quite some time. Pavan Attavar and Veda Yadav died after falling down from the stairway window while getting down from the third floor of the pub recently.

Four die after speeding Innova hits motorcycle on Ballari Road

Four persons, including a nine-month-old baby, were killed after a speeding Innova hit a motorcycle near Kannamangala Gate on Ballari Road on Wednesday evening. Traffic came to a halt for some time due to the accident that occurred beyond the trumpet Intersection that leads to the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).

A five-year-old boy succumbed to his injuries after he was attacked by stray dogs in Soladevanahalli on the outskirts of Bengaluru on Wednesday.

Villagers said Durgesh was attacked by a pack of stray dogs when he was returning from a local shop after purchasing a packet of biscuits. The boy succumbed to his injuries soon after the incident.

The demand for Indian bullfrog meat, also known as ‘jumping chicken’, is at its peak in Goan restaurants as monsoon season kicks in. This has forced Karnataka forest officials to be on their toes as large-scale poaching from the state and illegal trade of the same to Goa are expected to take place.

Confirming this, Deputy Conservator of Forests in Karwar, KV Vasantha Reddy told indianexpress.com that all check-posts on the state borders are on high alert to curb poachers trading the same to Goa.
