Three women killed in car crash outside Bangalore

The car occupants were on their way to Dharmasthala on a pilgrimage when the accident occurred at around 7.15 am.

Three women were killed and two others injured in a collision between a car and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus at the Marur Handpost near Nelamangala some 40 km from Bangalore on Wednesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Vinutha, 32 and Sobha, 37, both residents of Laggere in North Bangalore, and Preeti Thomas, 34, of Kalyana Nagar in East Bangalore. All three were development officers attached to the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India.

The injured were identified as Swetha of Doddaballapur and their friend Nitin Chandra of Vijayanagar. The five persons in the car that was involved in the accident were on their way to Dharmasthala on a pilgrimage when the accident occurred at around 7.15 am.

Vinutha was driving the car and lost control after hitting a speed breaker. The car entered the opposite lane and was rammed by the KSRTC bus, the Circle Inspector of Magadi Yelgaiah said. Vinutha and Sobha were killed at the spot. Preeti died on the way to hospital. Swetha and Chandra were being treated at a private hospital in Nelamangala town, police said.
