Three deaths reported in Bangalore following heavy rain

The victim's bodies were recovered from the debris of building by a Fire and Emergency Services rescue team.

Following heavy overnight rain on Wednesday, three persons were killed in two separate incidents in Bangalore. In one incident, a 37-year-old man was killed along with his 10-year-old son when a two storey building collapsed on them at around 1.30 am on Thursday at Jogupalya in the limits of the Ulsoor police station in east Bangalore.

The deceased were identified as Subramani, an employee at a private firm and his son Kiran Sai, a class III student in a government school in the locality. Subramani had stepped outside his house along with his son to park his motorcycle at a safe location when the incident occurred. He was about to move his bike from the street when the building collapsed, assistant commissioner of police (Ulsoor Sub-division) GB Manjunath said.

The victim’s bodies were recovered from the debris of building by a Fire and Emergency Services rescue team. Police said that Subramani’s wife Bharati and another son who were inside the house were safe. City in-charge minister Ramalinga Reddy and local legislator NA Haris visited the scene of the building collapse. Reddy announced a Rs two lakh compensation to the kin of the deceased.

In another incident, a 40-year-old priest at the Sri Sai Temple in Basaveshwara Nagar in West Bangalore was electrocuted on Thursday morning when he was trying to pump out water that had collected in the cellar of the temple due to heavy overnight rain. The priest Shankar stepped on a live electric wire in the cellar while pumping out water and was killed at the spot.
