Expressing his inability to join the probe, Janata Dal (Secular) MP and its Hassan candidate Prajwal Revanna, booked in connection with an alleged sexual abuse case reportedly involving several women, Wednesday sought seven days’ time to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) while stating that he was “not in Bengaluru.”
“As I am not in Bangalore to attend the enquiry, I have communicated to C.I.D Bangalore through my Advocate. Truth will prevail soon,” Prajwal said in a post on X.
The Karnataka government had formed an SIT to investigate videos, purportedly involving Prajwal Revanna, that are alleged to show “rape”.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah Saturday said he ordered the probe following a letter from the State Commission for Women (SCW), which said that “influential politicians sought sexual favours” from women besides “raping some of them”. As per police, Revanna is not in the country.
Prajwal is the grandson of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda and the son of former minister and JD(S) leader H D Revanna. He contested as the BJP-JD(S) candidate against Congress’s Shreyas M Patel from Hassan Lok Sabha constituency on April 26.
As the JD(S) now tries to survive the damage arising from hundreds of videos allegedly showing him abusing many women, Prajwal is himself said to be in Germany – having flown out just a day after polling was over for the Hassan Lok Sabha seat from where he is re-contesting, and days before the allegations broke.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the Central government to cancel the diplomatic passport of Prajwal Revanna, and take measures to ensure the return of the “absconding” MP by making use of diplomatic and police channels.
