A nursery school run by Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) collapsed in the early hours of Monday, damaging several vehicles parked near the school. Fortunately, as it was not school hours, nobody was injured.
The nursery school, located in Shivajinagar on Cook Road, collapsed around 3 am. A police officer said the students who attend this school are less than six-years-old and the building was more than 50-year-old.
Shivajinagar MLA Rizwan Arshar told the media that there are about six government school buildings in Shivajinagar that are old. He added, “New buildings will soon be constructed.”
He further said that he had inspected the school two years ago and had submitted a report. A tender was also issued to construct a new building.
BBMP officials on Monday morning visited the building and the debris was removed. Last week, about 75 students had attended classes in the same building. A car, four two-wheelers and an auto-rickshaw were damaged in the incident.
