The much-talked about upcoming film city near Mysuru will get an additional 50 acre of land to set up various facilities. This will be in addition to the 110 acre land of Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) allotted for the project.
The announcement was made following a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah regarding the film city in Bengaluru on Wednesday.
The film city was first proposed near Mysuru in the 2015-16 Budget during Siddaramaiah’s first tenure as the CM of the state. However, it is yet to be realised.
During the meeting, directions were issued for an order to transfer 110 acre of the KIADB land and to identify an additional 50 acre land to expand the film city.
Noting that it will come up along the Public Private Partnership model, the meeting resolved to appoint a transaction advisor to finalise a tender for the project. The land for the project will be first transferred to the Department of Information and Public Relations, before seeking an expression of interest for the film city.
When completed, the film city is expected to house all modern amenities required for film-making. It will also have a theatre, multiple studios, multiplex, theme park, hotels and other amenities. The project is also aimed at boosting tourism in the region. The CM also directed officials to include film tourism under the new tourism policy being drafted by the state government.
