Around 1.4 lakh graduates from Karnataka that account for 26 per cent have benefited from the Congress-led government’s Yuva Nidhi scheme, according to Sharanprakash Patil, Karnataka Minister for Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, and Livelihood. The minister presented the data on December 9 during the ongoing Belagavi session of state legislative Assembly.

Yuva Nidhi scheme – one of the five poll guarantees of the Congress party – promises to provide unemployment assistance of Rs 3,000 to degree holders and Rs1,500 monthly to diploma holders of Karnataka.

The Karnataka government has identified around 5.3 lakh youth who have passed out during the academic year 2022-2023 as eligible beneficiaries for the scheme. According to the data, Rs 650 crore has been allocated for the Yuva Nidhi scheme for the year 2024-25.

Of the 1.4 lakh beneficiaries till October 2024, Belagavi tops the list with 13,779 beneficiaries, followed by Kalaburgi (10,503), Bengaluru (9,733), Raichur (8,813), and Vijayapura (7,474).

In the current phase, the target is also to offer skill-based training programmes to 25,000 Yuvanidhi beneficiaries under the Yuvanidhi Plus Initiative.

However, several graduates have expressed displeasure over inconsistency in receiving the unemployment allowance. During a recent interaction with Mehroz Khan in September, vice-chairman of a panel overseeing the implementation of guarantee schemes at Kalaburagi, several beneficiaries of Yuva Nidhi expressed their discontentment over the improper implementation of the scheme stating that they have not received allowance for the last several months.

Yuva Nidhi beneficiaries stated that they received the money for the first five months since the implementation, but did not receive the amount in the recent months. However, Khan admitted that there have been some technical problems due to which some beneficiaries have not received their money and assured that the issues would be fixed shortly.
