Looking to strengthen Karnataka BJP at the booth level ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, party state president B Y Vijayendra has started to reach out to the workers days after being appointed for the role.
The second son of BJP Parliamentary Board member B S Yediyurappa, Vijayendra Monday visited the residence of Shivananjappa, a party worker from the Padmanabhanagar constituency in Bengaluru.
Two days ago, on Saturday, he was at the residence of Gandhinagar constituency worker Shashidhar. A similar meeting is scheduled Tuesday at Mulbagal in Kolar district.
Apart from his attempts to galvanise the party ranks after its below par performance in the Assembly polls held in May, Vijayendra also reached out to NDA ally JD(S), met the regional party supremo and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda Monday.
Speaking to reporters, he said that both the BJP and the JD(S) will work in a united manner for the Lok Sabha polls. “Even if he (Gowda) is not in active politics, his understanding about current affairs is an inspiration,” he said, adding that only two names come to mind when talking about people’s movement in the country. “One is Deve Gowda and another is B S Yediyurappa,” Vijayendra said.
During the day, the first-time MLA from Shikaripura also met former external affairs minister and chief minister S M Krishna and former CM Basavaraj Bommai.
Vijayendra, whose nomination as party president has irked some senior leaders of the party, will officially take charge Wednesday, November 15.
