Bank of Baroda personnel reached out to a family struggling to avail of the benefit under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme – Rs 2,000 per month to women head of a family – following a report from The Indian Express.
The report highlighted the plight of the family of Amaravathi, a resident of Narasapur, Kolar district. Amaravathi’s mother-in-law Munnaranamma was unable to avail the benefits of the income guarantee scheme of the Karnataka government as the account number linked to her was of Vijaya Bank, which merged with the Bank of Baroda in 2019.
Munnaranamma was unaware that her account number had to be changed to that of the Bank of Baroda to receive benefits provided by the government. When she visited the branch a few weeks ago to enquire why she had not received benefits, she was informed that her account number had to be changed.
A N Jagirdar, Chief Manager, Bank of Baroda zonal office, Bengaluru, said that the branch head of the Narasapur branch reached out to the family. The account was linked to Aadhaar and made operational a few days ago.
The Indian Express report highlighted the plight of several families that were yet to receive benefits of Gruha Lakshmi and other guarantees due to technical issues, which ranged from changing the name of the head of the family in the ration card to problems associated with linking ration card numbers with Aadhaar and bank account numbers.
