The Karnataka Police on Tuesday filed an application seeking a special court’s permission to conduct scientific tests on two accused in connection with the murder of a real estate operative in Bengaluru, in which a city BJP MLA, Byrathi Basavaraj, is among the accused.
He was allegedly killed outside his house on a public street near the Halasuru Lake on July 15 by a gang of armed assailants.
Kumar and Anil are among 20 accused in the murder of a realtor, V G Shivaprakash alias Bikla Shiva, 44, outside his house on a public street near the Halasuru Lake on July 15 by a gang of armed assailants.
Byrathi Basavaraj, 63, BJP MLA from the K R Pura constituency, and a local gangster Jagadish P alias Jaga, 45, with whom the party leader is associated, have also been accused of the murder.
CID arrested Kumar, 48, who has a criminal history, and Anil in connection with the July 15 murder on November 10. While Kumar was released on bail after claiming his lawyer’s privileges, Anil was sent to police custody for 10 days.

The two arrested men are reported to be closely associated with Basavaraj.
CID arrested Kumar, named as accused number 20 in the case, on November 10 after investigations revealed that he provided financial and logistical support to the main accused in the murder both before and after the crime. Anil R D, named as accused number 4, is alleged to have supplied a car that was used to execute the murder of Biklu Shiva.
Kumar, who has a real estate business, financed Jaga through the course of planning and executing the murder, and also facilitated his escape from India to Dubai soon after the murder, CID sources said. Jaga was nabbed in Jakarta based on an Interpol Blue notice, and arrested when he was sent to Delhi in August.
The murder of Biklu Shiva is alleged to have occurred over a dispute for a property which was claimed by two rival groups led by the victim and Jaga.
The police have informed the courts that the murder had its origins in a dispute dating back to February 2025, when a claimant to a property, identified as Ravi, contacted accused No 2 Kiran K, stating Biklu Shiva had illegally built a compound wall for four sites belonging to him.
The claimant alleged that Biklu Shiva was verbally abusing Jaga. After a series of confrontations between Jaga’s gang and Biklu Shiva for dominance in the region, his murder was plotted by the gang, it is alleged.
Basavaraj has claimed only a limited association as a public representative with the key accused in the murder, but the police probe has found a close association. CID has reported in filings in the High Court that the MLA “had prior contact with both the deceased and the principal accused before and after the occurrence of the crime.”
The BJP MLA has been protected from arrest by an August 12 order of the Karnataka High Court, which directed the police not to take “coercive action” against him. CID has invoked the stringent Karnataka Control of Organised Crime Act, 2000, in the murder case, which has been challenged in the Karnataka HC by the BJP MLA.
