The Bengaluru police recently booked BJP Bijapur MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal for allegedly referring to Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao’s house as ‘half Pakistan’.
The FIR was filed based on a complaint by Gundu Rao’s wife Tabu Rao. Yatnal has been booked under Section 153B (make or publish statements that promote disharmony) of the Indian Penal Code.
Allegedly alluding to the inter-faith marriage of Gundu Rao, Yatnal had stated, “There is a Pakistan in Gundu Rao’s house, so it’s his habit to give anti-national statements.”
He made the remark after Gundu Rao tweeted about a BJP leader who was detained and questioned by the National Investigation Agency in connection with the Rameshwaram cafe blast case.
After filing her complaint, Tabu Rao slammed Yatnal for his remarks and said, “He (Yatnal) said Dinesh Gundu Rao’s house is ‘half Pakistan’… They (BJP) talk of Bharat Mata but can’t respect women. I don’t have any problem if he speaks about Dinesh as he is in politics. I don’t like being dragged into this and I am fed up with being targeted for my Muslim roots…”
