Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar’s helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing in Kolar district on Tuesday after a vulture collided with the aircraft.

Shivakumar was en route to Mulubagal from the HAL airport in Bengaluru when the collision occurred. He was speaking to a television reporter when the vulture hit the glass breaking it. The pilot was able to land the chopper safely, and a major tragedy was averted. The incident resulted in damage to the front glass of the helicopter.

DK Shivakumar tweeted, “While on our way to Mulbagal, our helicopter met with an accident, in which my fellow passengers were injured. Thanks to the wishes of all Kannadigas, I am safe, and I thank the pilot for his quick response in making an emergency landing. Travelling to Mulbagal by road now.”

This is not the first time an incident like this has happened in the state. On April 6, a helicopter carrying former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa had to abort landing in Jewargi town of Kalaburagi district due to littered plastic bags flying near the helipad. The pilot kept hovering in the air until the authorities cleaned up the area and ensured that it was safe for landing.
