Bengaluru terror plot: 4 live grenades recovered from accused’s house

Police have formed a special team to track down the source of the explosives and ammunition.

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police in Bengaluru have recovered four live hand grenades from the Kodigehalli residence of one of the accused in the recent terror plot case.

On Thursday, the CCB interrogated all five arrested terror suspects and raided locations connected to them. At the house of accused Mohammed Fizal Rabbani, considered a handler for prime suspect Junaid who is absconding abroad, police found the grenades.

“The live grenades were recovered from Fizal Rabbani’s house. As per information, they were awaiting a signal to carry out explosions in the city,” an officer said. Bomb disposal and forensic teams accompanied the CCB.

Police have formed a special team to track down the source of the explosives and ammunition. Earlier, they had seized seven country-made pistols, 45 live bullets, walkie-talkies and documents.

On Wednesday, Bengaluru city police commissioner B Dayanada announced the arrest of five persons who were reportedly planning to carry out attacks in Bengaluru city.

ccording to police sources, the arrested are Syed Suhel Khan (24), a resident of RT Nagar, Mohammed Umar (29), a resident of Kodigehalli, Jahid Tabrez (25), a resident of Bhadrappa layout, Syed Mudaseer Pasha (28), a resident of RT Nagar and Mohammed Fizal Rabbani (30), a resident of Pulakeshinagar. Most worked as auto drivers, mechanics and welders.

Prime suspect Junaid, believed to be abroad, was arrested in 2017 for kidnapping and murder. In prison, he reportedly connected with 2008 Bengaluru serial blasts accused T Nasir and was radicalized. Nasir, arrested in 2009 near the India-Bangladesh border, is lodged in Parappana Agrahara central prison in Bengaluru.
