The Bengaluru police arrested three men, including an African national, in separate cases for peddling drugs worth a combined Rs 86.5 lakh, officials said on Tuesday.
In the largest seizure, officers from the Central Crime Branch (CCB) apprehended Kovsi Gelan Gesan, 38, from Ivory Coast in West Africa, near Soladevanahalli, on November 22. The police recovered 515 grams of MDMA crystals, along with an electronic weighing machine and a mobile phone, collectively valued at Rs 77 lakh.
Investigations revealed that Gesan entered India on a business visa in 2017 and had overstayed. He allegedly procured narcotics at lower rates from local suppliers and sold MDMA crystals for ₹12,000 to ₹15,000 per gram, targeting college students and corporate employees. Gesan has been remanded in judicial custody.
In a separate case, Marathahalli police arrested Bijoy Kujur, 24, a native of West Bengal, on November 1 and recovered ₹7.50 lakh-worth ganja worth approximately from a labour shed near an apartment in Kariyammana Agrahara.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Kujur smuggled the ganja from Assam and stored it in Bengaluru for distribution.
In the third incident, Sampigehalli police arrested Abdul Bashir, a resident of Bellandur, and seized 4 kg of ganja valued at ₹2 lakh. The police discovered that Bashir sourced the contraband from West Bengal at a lower price and sold it to local customers in Bengaluru.
