In what seems like a sequence right out of a movie, the Karnataka Lokayukta police arrested a food inspector attached to the Bengaluru North tehsildar office, after chasing the accused for nearly 15 km Friday night.
The accused government official has been identified as Mahanthe Gowda B Kadablu, a food inspector who allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 1,00,000 for reviewing a trade licence.
During the trap laid by the Lokayukta police based on the complaint of one Rangadhamaiah K, the government official was caught accepting Rs 43,000 bribe.
According to the Lokayukta police, the accused escaped in his car numbered KA 03 MZ 7665. The trap team chased the accused for about 15 km and he was surrounded near Sondekoppa Road, Nelamangala. After being cornered, Kadablu tried to run the vehicle over the panchas (witnesses) and officers. Finally, he was intercepted and caught with the bribe amount.
The accused has been booked under Section 7(a) (taking undue advantage to influence public servant by corrupt means) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
