The Bengaluru unit of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) Wednesday arrested three Sri Lankan nationals who illegally entered India through “the sea route”. The sleuths also held a resident of Bengaluru who gave the trio shelter at his apartment in Yelahanka. The three Sri Lankan nationals were identified as Kasan Kumara Sanka, EWA Amila Nuwan and Ranga Prasad.

The CCB sleuths have also recovered 13 mobile phones from their possession.

According to Sharanappa S D, joint commissioner of CCB Bengaluru, the Sri Lankan nationals were involved in gang wars back in the island nation. “Recently, the trio committed some offense and their life was under threat from the local police and a rival gang. To escape that, they fled from Sri Lanka and sneaked into India through Rameshwaram on a fishing boat. From Rameshwaram, they took a bus to travel to Bengaluru. They had been living in Bengaluru for the last 15 days,” Sharanappa said.

The joint commissioner added, “A person named Jalal helped them to illegally sneak into India. A hunt is on to nab him.”

Sharanappa further said, “Two of the three Sri Lankan nationals are involved in four to five murder cases in their country.”

The CCB identified the arrested Bengaluru resident, who housed the illegal immigrants at his apartment, as Paramesh alias Jayaparamesh. Paramesh is also a murder accused and a case against him is registered at the HAL police station. Paramesh reportedly works for Jalal, the CCB said.
