Woman, minor son injured in Ahmedabad hit-and-run

A 38-year-old woman and her 12-year-old son was injured after being hit by a car in Ahmedabad, said police on Tuesday, adding that the accused driver is absconding.

The incident took place between 7:30 pm and 8 pm in Gota area of Ahmedabad on Sunday evening when the family was out for an evening walk, said a police statement.

According to police, 38-year-old Ranjitsinh Bhalgaria, with his wife Jivu and son Preetrajainh were walking along the New Science City Road. They were hit by a car near the Shukan Mall crossroads during which Bhalgaria’s wife and son were run over by the vehicle.

Soon after the accident, the driver escaped from the spot even as Bhalgaria rushed his family to the hospital.

While Jivu suffered injuries in head and back, the minor sustained injuries in head, chest, abdomen, hands and legs said the police.

Based on a complaint from Bhalgaria, an FIR has been filed under Sections 281 (driving a vehicle in a rash or negligent manner), 125(a) (act that endangers human life), 125(b) (causing grievous hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Providing details, Inspector PB Zala of A Traffic police station said, “A probe into the matter is underway and police are scanning the nearby CCTV cameras to apprehend the accused”.
