Following an altercation, a woman allegedly killed her constable husband by hitting him with the broken leg of a cradle before dying by suicide in Ahmedabad on Monday, police said, adding the couple’s eight-year-old was a witness to both the deaths.
The deceased have been identified as Mukesh Parmar and his wife Sangeeta.
The alleged murder-suicide took place in the flat allotted to the constable in the Police Lines in Danilimda area of Ahmedabad City. Chaudhary was posted at ‘A’ Division Traffic police station.
The incident came to light on Monday afternoon, when the distraught boy walked out the gates of his house and informed his neighbours.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Y A Gohil of ‘K’ Division, under whose jurisdiction Danilimda police station falls, told The Indian Express, “According to the boy, his parents fought this (Monday) morning and then again at noon. However, this time, the matter appears to have escalated to such a degree that Sangeeta hit Mukesh with the leg of a cradle at the back of his head, causing his death.”
ACP Gohil further said, “Then, possibly realising the immensity of her actions, we believe, Sangeeta took her own life. Since this incident took place in a police lines, we obviously came to know immediately and began investigating the matter.”
Danilimda police inspector G J Rawat is investigating the case.
ACP Gohil said that if a member of Constable Parmar’s family comes forward to file a complaint, an FIR would be registered for murder, while an Accidental Death (AD) report would be filed with respect to Sangeeta’s death.
