Police, civic administration officials demolish ‘illegal’ properties of three ‘miscreants’ in Amreli

Amreli Police on Tuesday demolished alleged illegal properties of three persons, who they said were history-sheeters and known bootleggers with several cases in their names.

The three men were identified as Puna Ram Jogasya (Bharwad), Dharmesh alias Dhammo alias Dharmendra Manu Vala, and Jitu Lakhu Khakhadiya.

Officials from the police department and the civic administration demolished a cowshed owned by Jogasya that allegedly included a shed with a 40-foot wall encroaching on a government land of 300 square metres. Jogasya has six cases filed against him, they said.

Officials also demolished a residential structure owned by Vala, allegedly built on government land as well as a shop. Vala has 22 cases against him, they added.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Amreli SP Sanjay Kharat said, “We have been taking action since a couple of months against history-sheeters, especially those who have been booked for multiple offences and are still engaging in such activities. We have identified more than 130 anti-social elements in Amreli district.”

SP Kharat said that till date, a total of 42 illegal electricity connections had been snapped and fines were collected, adding: “We have demolished 13 properties so far.”

Asked about sending such “miscreants” back to jail, Kharat said, “We proposed PASA be invoked against 35 anti-social elements — and seven have been approved so far. A total of 11 tadipaar (externment orders) have also been accepted.”
