Equipping the City Gas Distribution (CGD) network, closing the demand-supply gap, and creating synergies to meet targets were some of the issues discussed at the two-day conclave organised by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) and Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) that concluded in Gandhinagar on Thursday.
A major discussion in one of the sessions on “Strategic Molecule Sourcing in CGD: Navigating Policy, Market Dynamics, and Infrastructure Solutions” was aimed at equipping the CGD players with the knowledge and tools needed to make “strategic, data-driven decisions to build a resilient and sustainable gas supply strategy”, according to a release.
Currently, India’s natural gas production meets only 50% of its demand, which is expected to grow significantly by 2030-2040 when dependence on Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) will grow to bridge the gap, as per the PNGRB report on India’s Natural Gas Demand Projection for 2030-2040.
The conclave featured six sessions focusing on shaping a cleaner, resilient energy future through gas-vision planning, infrastructure development, consumer protection, pipeline modernisation, and strategic sourcing to support India’s energy security goals, and saw participation of government representatives, industry leaders, international experts, and innovators.
The conclave, which was a sequel to the first one held in Visakhapatnam last year, aimed at bringing together Natural Gas Pipeline (NGP), CGD and Petroleum and Petroleum Products Pipeline (PPPL) entities on to a unified platform to collaborate and strategise for the future.
