Amid a delayed withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon in Gujarat, the state received an average of 140% of rainfall this season. The monsoon withdrawal was completed on Tuesday, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

While Kutch received the highest rain among all the regions, the maximum rain was received in August, data shows. On Monday, the line of withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon continued to pass through Navsari as conditions were favourable for further withdrawal from the remaining parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and some more parts of Maharashtra, officials underlined.

As per the weather department, the withdrawal got delayed due to a “well-marked low pressure” area last week. “The depression over West Central Arabian Sea off Oman coast moved northwestwards and likely to move nearly westwards towards Oman coast and weaken gradually into a well-marked low-pressure area,” the weather department stated on Tuesday.

“The Southwest Monsoon withdrawal was completed in Gujarat along with the entire country on Tuesday. However, this week there is a forecast of heavy rainfall in southern districts of Gujarat, including Valsad,” Ahmedabad regional director in-charge Ramashray Yadav told The Indian Express.
