Justice N S Sanjay Gowda sworn in as Gujarat High Court judge

Justice Neranahalli Srinivasan Sanjay Gowda, formerly a judge of the Karnataka High Court, was sworn in as a judge of the Gujarat High Court on Monday.

Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court Justice Sunita Agarwal administered the oath of office to Justice Gowda.

It was in April this year that the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended transfers of seven sitting High Court judges, including four from Karnataka. Justice Gowda was transferred to the Gujarat High Court.

The ceremony was held in the First Court of the Gujarat HC with Advocate General Kamal Trivedi, senior advocates and other dignitaries in attendance.

Justice Gowda, 58, began his practice as an advocate in 1989 and was appointed as Additional Judge of the High Court of Karnataka in November 2019. He was made a permanent judge of the Karnataka High Court in September 2021.

A statement issued by the Supreme Court Collegium in April, presided by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, said the transfers were recommended “with a view to infuse inclusivity and diversity at the level of High Courts and to strengthen the quality of administration of justice”.
