Red alert in Kutch, Banaskantha as Gujarat reels under heavy rain

Suigam recorded 410 mm in 24 hours. The administrations of Kutch and Banaskantha have been alerted to monitor the situation

Districts of Banaskantha and Kutch in Gujarat continued to reel under heavy rainfall on Monday as Lakhpat and Rapar recorded 127 mm and 113 mm rainfall respectively in eight hours till 2 pm on Monday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Kutch, Banaskantha and Patan on Monday while Surendranagar, Jamnagar, Morbi and Devbhoomi Dwarka in the Saurashtra region are under an orange alert.

Exceptionally heavy rainfall continued in the districts of North Gujarat, including Banaskantha and in Kutch. Kutch district’s Gandhidham, Nakhatrana, Bhachau, Bhuj, Anjar have recorded 87 mm, 76 mm, 80 mm, 67 mm, and 60 mm respectively from Monday 6 am till 2 pm.

Banaskantha’s Bhabhor received 104 mm, Deodar 50 mm, Tharad 34 mm, Vav 32 mm and Lakhani 28 mm during this period.

District administrations of both Kutch and Banaskantha have been alerted and are continuously monitoring the situation.

In the last 24 hours ending Monday 10 am, Banaskantha’s Suigam recorded exceptionally heavy rainfall of 410 mm or 16.14 inches followed by Bhabhor 328 mm or 12.91 inches, Vav 319 mm or 12.56 inches and Tharad 299 mm or 11.73 inches.
