Dhruv Raval, Science

For 17-year-old Dhruv Raval, his father’s perseverance is his “biggest inspiration”. “The hard work he has put in the past 25-30 years to run the house and raise us is an example for us,” says Dhruv, who is the youngest of three siblings. A student of Vision School of Science in Nadiad, Dhruv is among the Class XII Science toppers in the state. He secured 99.48 percentile in the HSC examination with an A1 grade as well as 99.90 per cent in GUJCET.

Dhruv’s father, Nitin Raval, earns a living by driving an auto rickshaw in Nadiad town. “My older siblings — a brother, who is preparing for a Chartered Accountancy course and a sister, who has completed her Masters in Commerce — have always motivated me to follow my dreams and study well… My parents, especially mother Jyoti, always ensured that there is a conducive environment at home for us to study and succeed,” Dhruv, a BTech aspirant, tells The Indian Express.

He added that he used to study for nearly 12 hours every day and stayed away from social media. “I would occasionally play cricket to refresh myself but as exams approached, it was only about revising and studying for 12 hours a day,” he says.

Dilip Dantaniya, Commerce

Nineteen-year-old Dilip Dantaniya, who secured 98.34 percentile or 89 per cent, hopes to crack the Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC) examination to help his family out of the existing crisis.

A resident of Shahpur area in Ahmedabad, his mother Jayshree sells utensils in exchange for old clothes, while his father Jayendrabhai is a daily-wage labourer. The parents afforded Dilip’s education with some financial help from relatives and friends. “I have three sisters and all are married. I want to help my parents by supporting them financially… My teachers told me about GPSC and guided me on its preparations. I want to work hard and crack it so that we don’t face any financial crisis in the future,” Dilip says.
