A day after a nine-year-old girl was mauled to death by stray dogs, the Valsad district collector gave a financial aid of Rs 25,000 to her mother. He also promised to allot her family a home under the Shramjivi Awaas Yojna.
Out of 900 families in the Malvan village, 300 families do not have toilets at houses. They used to go to the open ground to answer nature’s call. Many of them had applied for government subsidy to build toilets but were not yet approved.
Nine-year-old Keny Patel, a resident of Kardiva street at Malvan village of Valsad district, was attacked by a group of 10 stray dogs when she had gone to answer the nature’s call on an open ground nearby her house, on Friday morning. She died of injuries on Friday afternoon in Valsad Civil Hospital as she was not brought on time.

Sources said that Keny’s mother, Bhumi Patel, works as an ASHA worker. She also works as a farm labourer to run her family. Bhumi’s husband, Kantilal Patel, died three years ago of leptospirosis, leaving behind his wife and three children.
The dead body of the girl was handed over to the family after post-mortem on Friday evening and buried Saturday afternoon. According to Malvan village sarpanch Nanubhai Patel, “There are around 986 houses in the Malvan village. Out of this, 300 houses don’t have loos.”
Valsad district collector Ravi Kumar Arora said, “We have approved a house to Bhumi Patel under Shramjivi Awaas Yojna. We have also given primary monetary compensation of Rs 25,000 to the family. We are also ensuring that the younger brother and elder sister of Keny get good education and for that we have also made certain provisions.”
