Panchmahal District’s Sehra BJP MLA Jetha Ahir, also the Deputy Speaker of the Gujarat Assembly, was elected unopposed as the chairman of Panchamrut Dairy for the fourth consecutive term. All 17 members of the Panchamrut Dairy’s Board of Directors voted for Ahir to continue in the post .

Ahir, who was elected uncontested as the chairman of the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED), and is also the chairman of the Panchmahal District Cooperative Bank, was declared the winner on Monday as per the procedure to the dairy’s top post, which is the lifeline for over two lakh milk producers from Panchmahal, Mahisagar and Dahod districts. Ahir has been holding the post uncontested since 2009.

Reacting to the win, Ahir said, “The Board of Directors have elected me as the chairman. I had submitted the form as per the process, it was scrutinised and accepted as per the process. My board has entrusted me with the responsibility and I have taken it upon myself to ensure that Panchamrut dairy continues to scale new heights…”

“Since it is the auspicious day of the first Navratri, I pray that Goddess Amba will bless the milk producers and the dairy in the coming years,” Ahir added. The BJP had won the election to the board of directors of Panchmahal district’s Panchamrut Dairy uncontested after all contestants, except the BJP-mandated leaders, withdrew their forms on September 10, the last day of withdrawing nominations for the September 20 polls. The move meant that the Panchamrut Dairy had elected its members for 18 seats without a poll. At least 31 candidates had filed their nomination papers and 13 accepted candidates, who were cleared during the scrutiny of the nominations, withdrew on September 10.
