450 buildings razed in AMC’s anti-encroachment drive in Bapunagar

The demolition drive carried out by the Estate and Town Development Department of North Zone of AMC started from 6 am and went on till 9 am.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Thursday carried out an anti-encroachment drive and demolished 450 kutcha and pucca residential and commercial buildings known as “Akbarnagar na Chhapra” near Malekasaban Talav in Bapunagar area of the city.

The demolition drive carried out by the Estate and Town Development Department of North Zone of AMC started from 6 am and went on till 9 am.

In an official statement on Thursday evening, the estate department said, “In this operation, four teams of 800 staff were involved. During the operation, five encroachment vans, nine Hitachi machines, five JCB machines, 40 dump trucks, two fire tenders for safety and a medical team along with an ambulance were used.”

During this operation, the AMC said, “a total of 15,200 square metres of land was cleared and repossessed”.

In 2011, the AMC had issued a notice regarding the said land and in 2014, 221 persons in the affected area were provided alternative housing under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission scheme.
