Sensex rises 580 pts from day’s low, ends 79 pts higher, Nifty closes at 19,435; broader markets lose

After trading in negative for most of the session, domestic equities ended flat in positive on Monday, led by gains in Infosys, Hindustan Unilever, Hindustan Unilever, Reliance Industries, and L&T. BSE benchmark Sensex recovered 580 points from its intraday low to close 79.27 points, or 0.12 per cent higher at 65,401.92.

Meanwhile, broader NSE Nifty50 gyrated 176.65 points from its intraday low to close almost flat at 19,434.55.

The Indian rupee fell 15 paise today to close at 82.97 (provisional) against the US dollar.

Broader markets mostly ended lower as Nifty Smallcap 100 slipped 0.73 per cent, Nifty Smallcap 250 fell 0.65 per cent, Nifty Smallcap 50 slipped 0.47 per cent and Nifty Smallmidcap 400 tanked 0.39 per cent.

Sectorally, only IT, media, and FMCG indices ended in green. Nifty Metal tanked 2.14 per cent today, followed by PSU Bank fell 0.71 per cent, the realty sector fell 0.66 per cent, and Nifty Healthcare Index slipped 0.42 per cent.

DivisLab gained nearly 2 per cent after the company reported a 49.2 per cent fall in its quarterly profit.

Divis Lab, LTI Mindtree, Hindustan Unilever, Reliance Industries, Tata Consumer, L&T, ICICI Bank, ONGC, Asian Paints, and Hero MotoCorp were the top gainers in today’s session.

Adani Enterprises was today’s top drag in the Nifty50 index, and fell 3.64 per cent today, to close at Rs 2,446.95.

The top losers were Adani Enterprises, JSW Steel, Hindalco, SBI, Adani Ports, Tata Steel, Bajaj Finserv, Apollo Hospitals, UPL, Cipla, UltraTech Cement, and SBI Life.
