Sensex gains 119 points, Nifty ends at 18,524; Adani Ent, Infosys lose, metal, auto stocks rally

Infosys dragged the IT index as the company traded ex-dividend today. Shares of Infosys ended 1.51 per cent lower at Rs 1,298.65.

Domestic markets ended higher on Friday led by metal and auto stocks amid volatility to finish the week on a positive note. BSE benchmark Sensex opened 118.57 points, or 0.19 per cent higher to close at 62,547.11, while broader NSE Nifty50 gained 36.15 points, or 0.20 per cent at 18,523.90.

Infosys dragged the IT index as the company traded ex-dividend today. Shares of Infosys ended 1.51 per cent lower at Rs 1,298.65.

Meanwhile, Adani Enterprises was also among the top losers today, as the stock moved out of short-term ASM surveillance, and after the company scrapped a deal to acquire the road portfolio from Macquarie Asia Infrastructure Fund (MAIF) for Rs 3,110 crore.

Except for IT and oil & gas, all sectors ended in green, as the realty index jumped the most at 1.28 per cent, followed by the metal index at 1.14 per cent and auto at 0.95 per cent.

Broader markets also extended the rally as Nifty Midcap 50 gained 0.74 per cent, Nifty Midcap Select jumped 0.69 per cent, and Nifty Smallcap 50 0.59 per cent. Meanwhile, India Vix fell 4.26 per cent.

Hindalco, HeroMotoCorp, Apollo Hospital, Tata Steel, Maruti Suzuki, M&M, JSW Steel, and Dr Reddys were the top gainers in today’s session.

On the other hand, Infosys, Adani Enterprises, BPCL, HDFC Life, TCS, Wipro, HCLTech, SBI Life and Reliance Industries were the top losers in today’s session.

The rupee logged its best record in five weeks on Friday as the dollar weakened on the back of increased bets for a Fed rate pause, while persistent dollar inflows into stocks also aided the sentiment, reported Reuters.

The rupee closed at 82.3050 against the American currency, compared to 82.4050 on Thursday.
