
Frontline equity benchmark indices rallying for the fourth session on the back of the firm trend in the US markets.
The 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 138.53 points to 73,243.14 in early trade. The NSE Nifty went up by 60.7 points to 22,278.55.
From the Sensex pack, Power Grid, State Bank of India, Tata Motors, NTPC, Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel, ITC, Reliance Industries, Bajaj Finserv and Bajaj Finance were the major gainers. On the other hand, HUL, HDFC Bank, JSW Steel, UltraTech Cement were among the laggards.
Among sectoral indices, auto, IT, metal, financial service traded in green while IT, FMCG and service sector traded in red.
In Asian markets, Japan’s Nikkei traded in the positive territory while Shanghai markets quoted lower. Wall Street ended with gains on Tuesday.
Brent crude oil benchmark climbed 0.72 per cent to $82.96 a barrel.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 4,065.52 crore on Tuesday, according to exchange data.
The benchmark government bond yield slipped to a six-week low on Wednesday tracking a decline in US Treasury yields.
“Bulls are having a strong grip for now, but if buying does not sustain through the session, we could see benchmark ending closer to round 7.10%, as state-run banks are continuously on offers,” a trader with a primary dealership said, as reported by Reuters.
