‘SIT will respect privacy in tax pacts’

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) tracking black money accounts will “for the time being”, respect the confidentiality clause provided for in tax treaties and will not disclose names provided to it by the government, its chairman Justice MB Shah said.

Speaking to The Indian Express after an SIT meeting, Shah said that all the investigations are on fast-track mode and the second report would be submitted before December 3. The first report was submitted in August.

“Confidentiality clause is there and for the time being we have to respect it and not give names unless the other country says,” he said.

Shah added that the SIT will also seek information from the public and would place advertisements in the newspapers in the next 2-3 days. “Any one who has specifics can send it to us and we will take up the case,” he said.
