Did not receive any letter on PPP audit from ex-CAG: Chidambaram

He further said there was regular correspondence on the audit of PPP projects between the Comptroller and Auditor General and finance ministry.

Former finance minister P Chidambaram said on Tuesday that he did not receive any communication from ex-CAG Vinod Rai on the audit of Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects.

This was in response to statements by Rai alleging that he had written letters to Chidambaram, as well as former prime minister Manmohan Singh and finance minister Pranab Mukherjee, on the issue of the audit of PPP projects, but did not receive any response from any of them.

“I do not recall any address to me by the CAG on the subject. I have since confirmed that no letter was addressed to me,” Chidambaram said in an emailed statement. He further said there were some letters addressed to the then finance minister Mukherjee in 2010 and they were dealt with at the level of additional secretary and economic affairs secretary. “The file was not put up to me after I returned to the ministry of finance in August 2012,” Chidambaram said.

He further said there was regular correspondence on the audit of PPP projects between the Comptroller and Auditor General and finance ministry. “But no final view has been taken by the government,” he said while responding to the interviews given by Rai.
