A personal experience has served as a trigger for Bharti Enterprises chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal to launch a new corporate social responsibility initiative Nyaya Bharti, which will help the lesser privileged undertrials.
Nyaya Bharti, which will be run under Bharti Foundation, is likely to be operational by April 2016. Bharti Airtel will contribute an annual amount of Rs 10 crore on an ongoing basis, while Mittal will take a cut of Rs 5 crore from his annual salary as his personal contribution for the new initiative.
“I can tell you my personal experience. I have been to Patiala House myself few times in my own case, I have seen the situation. Absolutely, it was a trigger. And once you go through a life experience you do feel that you are privileged to get access to the best legal counsels. I had the privilege of having the top three or four counsels in the country. Most of the people do not have that kind of access. It really triggered a thought on my mind that we could change the fortunes of many families whose members are languishing,” Mittal said.
“This has been in my mind for over a couple of years but it was taking shape,” he said, adding that his initiative is in keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan of ‘Sabka Nyaya’.
