Trouble For Liquor Baron Vijay Mallya, External Affairs Ministry Sends Extradition Request To UK

The Ministry of External Affairs said India has handed over liquor baron Vijay Mallya’s extradition request as received from CBI to the United Kingdom High Commission. In a statement to the media, MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup said and I quote: Have extradition treaty with Britain and legitimate case against Mallya. We made a request, but now it’s for British authorities to take further action. Earlier last week, Mallya expressed shock after a special CBI court issued a non-bailable warrant against him in a loan default case, and he said the investigative agency and media are distorting facts to level allegations against him. Vijay Mallya, who is currently in UK, has been declared a Proclaimed Offender by a special PMLA court in Mumbai in connection with its money laundering probe against him in the alleged bank loan default case.
