At BRICS Summit, EAM Jaishankar Urges Fair Trade, Warns Against Barriers and Non-Trade Linkages

At the BRICS Leaders’ Summit, External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar underscored that trade patterns and market access are now central to the global economic debate. He cautioned against increasing barriers and linking trade measures to non-trade issues, calling instead for sustainable and cooperative approaches. Stressing that some of India’s biggest trade deficits are with BRICS partners, Jaishankar urged an urgent review of trade flows within the bloc. He highlighted India’s strong support for an open, fair, transparent, inclusive, and rules-based trading system that protects developing countries, and pressed for reforms to make global supply chains more resilient, reliable, and equitable.
