Xi Jinping to Host Modi, Putin, Guterres at Tianjin SCO Summit Amid Global Turmoil

SCO Summit 2025: Chinese President Xi Jinping will host over 20 world leaders — including Russia’s Vladimir Putin, Indian PM Narendra Modi, and UN chief Antonio Guterres — at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin on August 31 and September 1. The meeting comes just days before China’s biggest military parade in years and at a time when U.S. President Donald Trump’s foreign and trade policies, including on Israel, Gaza and tariffs, are pushing many nations closer to Beijing. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim are also set to attend. Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Bin says the summit aims to deepen political, economic, and security cooperation and will conclude with the Tianjin Declaration. At last year’s SCO summit in Astana, leaders pledged enhanced cooperation on counterterrorism, renewable energy, and digital economies. Stay tuned for a detailed breakdown of how this summit could reshape global geopolitics.
