US Brazil Tariff War: Lula Slams Trump’s Tariff Threat As Protesters Burn Effigy In Brazil

US Brazil Tariff War: Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has warned of reciprocal tariffs if U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed 50% duties on Brazilian exports take effect on August 1. In a televised interview, Lula stressed that while Brazil will seek a diplomatic solution first, the country is prepared to match U.S. tariffs “like-for-like” if necessary. The tensions stem from Trump’s letter to Lula, in which he criticized Brazil’s judiciary for prosecuting former President Jair Bolsonaro, calling it a "witch hunt." In response, protesters in São Paulo burned a Trump effigy and a U.S. flag.
