Rashtriya Rifles Withdrawn From J&K’s Streets, To Be Moved To Borders: Neeta Sharma Explains

Rashtriya Rifles Removed From Kashmir: In a phased move, the Rashtriya Rifles — the Army’s counter-insurgency force deployed in Jammu and Kashmir since the 1990s — is being withdrawn from cities and villages. Following a security audit, the Centre has decided to reposition the RR along the Line of Control and international borders to counter rising infiltration. Internal security will now be handled by the Central Armed Police Forces and J&K Police. Neeta Sharma explains why the government calls this a “big shift” in strategy, what it means for the counter-terror grid, and how it reflects a changing approach towards the Union Territory.
