At Lenovo Tech World 2016, Motorola announced its own modular smartphone. While Lenovo Phab 2 Pro was in limelight, Moto Z had its own reason for being the showstopper. Moto Z is the second modular smartphone (first being LG G5) and is absolutely thin at just 5.2 mm. Moto Z also embarks a new series for Motorola, now owned by Lenovo. Moto Z will be available globally in September and will come with range of swappable backs (Source: Lenovo)
Motorola Moto Z comes in two variants - Z and Z Force. The regular Moto Z features a 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED display and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset. The smartphone has 4GB RAM and will be available in 32/64GB storage option (Source: Lenovo)
Moto Z features a 13MP primary camera with f/1.8 aperture lens and dual-LED flash. The rear camera also comes with laser autofocus and dual-LED flash. The front camera is a 5MP one capable of recording 1080p videos (Source: Lenovo)
Moto Z skips 3.5 mm headphone jack and uses USB-C to 3.5 mm adaptor for audio playback. The smartphone is backed by a decent 2600mAh battery (Source: Lenovo)
Motorola has also announced Moto Z Force which comes with a shatterproof display like Moto X Force. Moto Z and Moto Z Force feature same display, same amount of RAM and storage. Moto Z Force gets a 21MP rear camera and is backed by a beefy 3500mAh battery (Source: Lenovo)
However, what sets Moto Z apart from other smartphones is the swappable modular back panels. The panels attach to the back of the device via magnets and Motorola is also offering a modular panel for projector, JBL speaker and a power bank. Motorola plans to release several more of these modules right at the time of the launch (Source: Lenovo)
