Dr Suchismitha Rajamanya, Lead Consultant; HOD - Internal Medicine, Aster Whitefield Hospital, Bengaluru, said that there are a few animal studies which showed that exposure to artificial light at night increases sugar levels in lab animals. "It has been hypothesized that exposure to artificial light at night will also alter our body's metabolism and circadian sleep rhythms. This can affect the secretion of hormones like melatonin and steroids which can cause an increase in the level of sugars in our body," she explained. (Source: Freepik)
