Tesla CEO Elon Musk addressed the incident on X, confirming that vehicles involved in both incidents were rented from the same car rental site, Turo.

A Tesla Cybertruck burst into flames outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on Wednesday morning, leaving the driver dead and seven others injured. Authorities, including the FBI, are investigating whether the incident was an act of terrorism, officials informed.

Las Vegas Sheriff Kevin McMahill, while providing details about the explosion, also shared a video of the blast. The explosion occurred around 8:40 am when the 2024 Tesla Cybertruck arrived at the hotel’s valet area. “Shortly after the vehicle pulled in, smoke was observed coming from inside the truck, followed by a flash and a violent explosion,” McMahill explained.

The video revealed the severity of the blast. While the sole occupant of the Cybertruck, the driver, was killed, seven bystanders sustained minor injuries. Two of the injured were transported to nearby hospitals. The Trump International Hotel was evacuated, and guests were relocated to another property.

The investigation has drawn comparisons to another attack earlier that day in New Orleans, where a rented Ford F-150 was found with a suspected explosive device. Notably, both vehicles were rented through the car-sharing platform Turo.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who has publicly supported Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, addressed the incident on X, confirming that vehicles involved in both incidents were rented from the same car rental site, Turo.

“Appears likely to be an act of terrorism. Both this Cybertruck and the F-150 suicide bomb in New Orleans were rented from Turo. Perhaps they are linked in some way,” he wrote.

Musk also noted, “We have now confirmed that the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb carried in the bed of the rented Cybertruck and is unrelated to the vehicle itself.”

“All vehicle telemetry was positive at the time of the explosion,” he said.
