US mission in Pakistan issues security alert, advises Americans to avoid Peshawar hotel

“US citizens are encouraged to avoid the hotel and the area around it during this period and to reconsider travel plans,” the statement advised. It also reminded citizens to refer to the ‘Do Not Travel’ advisory issued in September for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province “due to terrorism.”

The advisory, issued on 10 September, classified the province under ‘Level 4’ in the ‘Do Not Travel’ category, citing the high threat perception.

“Active terrorist and insurgent groups routinely carry out attacks against civilians, non-governmental organisations, government offices, and security forces,” it stated. “These groups have historically targeted both government officials and civilians. Assassination and kidnapping attempts are common, including attacks on polio eradication teams and Pakistani security personnel,” it added.

Recent months have seen a rise in terror-related incidents and attacks on security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
