US President Donald Trump has signaled that the US and China may have reached a deal on the future of TikTok.
Posting on Truth Social, the US President said talks between American and Chinese officials in Madrid about trade had gone “very well.”
“The big Trade Meeting in Europe between The United States of America, and China, has gone VERY WELL! It will be concluding shortly. A deal was also reached on a ‘certain’ company that young people in our Country very much wanted to save.
They will be very happy! I will be speaking to President Xi on Friday. The relationship remains a very strong one!!! President DJT,” Trump wrote.
TikTok’s Chinese parent, ByteDance, has faced a Wednesday deadline to sell its US operations or face a ban. Trump has extended that deadline several times while negotiations continue over a deal that satisfies both Washington and Beijing.
Back in July, he said the US “pretty much” had an agreement on the sale of the video-sharing app.
