US President Donald Trump has ended Secret Service protection for former Vice-President and 2024 Democratic rival Kamala Harris, CNN reported Friday, citing a letter. Typically, V-Ps receive six months of security after leaving office, but the detail for Harris had been extended to a year under President Joe Biden. The termination of additional security is set to take effect on September 1, according to the letter.

Harris, who lost the 2024 election to Trump, is preparing for a book tour for her memoir, 107 Days. A Harris adviser said she was grateful to the Secret Service for their dedication, Reuters reported. Trump has previously ended federal protection for others critical of him, including former National Security Adviser John Bolton and President Biden’s children, Hunter and Ashley Biden.

Harris has not ruled out a possible presidential run in 2028.
